The Grand
Palace (Phra Borom Maha Ratcha Wang) is a complex of buildings
in Bangkok, Thailand. It served as the official residence of the king
of Thailand from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. After the death
of King Ananda Mahidol in the Baromphiman Palace, King Bhumibol moved
the official royal residence to Chitralada Palace. Construction of the
palace complex began in 1782, during the reign of Rama I. |
Thailand's Royal Barge
Procession is a ceremony of both religious and royal significance
which has been taking place for nearly 700 years. The exquisitely crafted
Royal Barges are a blend of craftsmanship and traditional Thai art. The
Royal Barge Procession takes place rarely, typically coinciding with only
the most significant cultural and religious events. During the 60-year
reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Procession has only occurred 15 times. |

Thai classical
dance, Khon is the most stylised form of Thai dance. It is performed
by troupes of non-speaking dancers, the story being told by a chorus at
the side of the stage. Choreography follows traditional models rather
than attempting to innovate. Most khon performances feature episodes from
the Ramakien. Costumes are dictated by tradition, with demons wearing
coloured masks. |
Thai cuisine
is known for its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the
overall meal - hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional).
Although popularly considered as a single cuisine, Thai food is really
better described as four regional cuisines corresponding to the four main
regions of the country. |

The floating
market is the best known destination
near Bangkok where timeless lifestyle of native Thai people can be observed
along the canals. The Floating Market, approximately 400 metres from the
Damonen Saduak District Office, operates every morning till noon. Boats
can be hired for observing close-up canal side villages and boat vendors. |
Tiger Temple,
or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua, is a Buddhist temple in Western Thailand which
keeps numerous animals, among them several tame tigers that walk around
freely once a day and can be petted by tourists. It was founded in 1994
as a forest temple and sanctuary for numerous wild animals. In 1995, it
received the Golden Jubilee Buddha Image, made of 80kg of gold. |

The island of Koh Mak
is located in the East of the Gulf of Thailand, 35 kilometers from the
mainland, at latitude 11" 49' North, longitude 102' 29' East. Koh
Mak is the third biggest island in Trat province after Koh Chang and Koh
Kood, with an area of 16 square kilometers; it is mostly flat. The island
has a circumference of 27 kilometers, and white sandy beaches stretch
from the north-west of the island round to the south. |
